Meet The Team: Robin Hughes

Robin Hughes has recently joined the Ebit team as a Procurement Consultant. Robin works alongside our team of consultants to deliver expert procurement knowledge and advice, ensuring our clients achieve the best outcomes with their procurement projects.

What does your role encompass?

My areas of specialism include Logistics, Warehousing, Waste & Recycling and these are my main points of focus. I also like to turn my hand to any other projects and areas where I can add value.

What do you enjoy most about working for Ebit?

Ebit is a really positive and respectful environment with everyone working to support each other. Everyone has been so welcoming here that even after a matter of days it feels like I ‘belong’.

What’s your professional background?

I spent just over four and a half years at Boots UK managing the Logistics, Warehousing and MHE Procurement. Prior to this I was at Tesco for 22 years in a number of roles including Procurement and Commercial.

What would your advice be to someone who is considering procurement as a career?

Try to gain as much operational knowledge as possible before moving into Procurement. Being able to see a business from both sides of the table cannot be underestimated. It helps you to realise what are the most important factors when decision making – and being able to understand your stakeholder’s concerns gives you credibility and an immense boost to your relationship.

How have you adapted to remote working?

I have been remote working on and off for almost 8 years now so the change when Covid hit was more manageable. For me it has been essential to define a space for work, and know how to and when to switch off in the evening. Kids, pets and general life around you will always try and interrupt, but scheduling your time really helps with that!

If you were an Olympic athlete, which sport would you compete in?

Definitely swimming! I used to swim competitively as a child and teen, and I love being in the water!

Who would be your dream dinner guest?

It would have to be Isaac Arthur – The future of space travel, colonisation and mining of other solar bodies absolutely fascinates me. He manages to explain all the different concepts in such a way that I can grasp them.

Do you have a favourite quote?

If it aint broke, don’t fix it!
