Dan Hetherington has recently joined the Ebit team as a Senior Consultant. Dan works alongside our team of consultants to deliver expert procurement knowledge and advice, ensuring our clients achieve the best outcomes with their procurement projects. With a broad background and deep level GNFR experience, Dan brings experience and expertise to our clients, supporting our team of consultants as well as managing his own assignments and clients.

What does your role encompass?

My responsibilities can vary based on the specific job, company, or industry I’m assigned to but generally my responsibilities include:

  • Understanding the strategic direction set and how it relates to the teams goal.
  • Adapting existing methods and procedures to moderate or highly complex problems.
  • Using my own judgment to determine the optimal solutions to recommend.
  • Having the ability of upward interaction and influence at board level.
  • Review, develop, redline, and negotiate third-party vendor contracts, including master services agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements etc.

What does your average day look like?

As I work from home, the day job will usually consists of working through clients requests, which can include anything from data analysis or negotiations, through to general project work and contract reviews. This is all wedged in-between taking and collecting my daughter from nursery and attempting to keep myself in relatively good shape by going to the gym.

What’s your professional background?

Since leaving University, the bulk of my career to date has been within GNFR Procurement. I have worked in various industries, primarily Retail, but also have experience of working in Manufacturing, Financial Services and eCommerce.

Having recently moved into Consultancy I am enjoying the amount diversity and the new challenges and opportunities that come with it.

Tell us about your first ever job?

I had a summer job as a Courier, delivering window samples to various window and door manufacturers across the UK.

If you were an Olympic athlete, which sport would you compete in?

Snowboard Cross. I have been snowboarding for many years and always find that event really exciting to watch.

Do you have a favourite podcast?

I’ve listened to a lot of Podcasts since the pandemic and  I’ve been WFH. I like High Performance and The Life of a CEO, I like to get into the mindset of the people who are at the top of their game. I also like Two Pints with Will and Ralf, simply because it’s hilarious and True Faith: Newcastle.

And finally, any favourite quotes?

Anything by Mark Twain, my personal favourite of his is:

“It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”.
